An A-Z of Weddings I'm behind on here as I starte An A-Z of Weddings I'm behind on here as I started on Facebook on 1st Jan but there are 26 days of January left so: A is for ALTERNATIVE Weddings can break away from the traditions and give couples room to design a celebration that feels personal, creative, and more aligned with their values. Instead of rigid formalities, these weddings involve storytelling, and shared experiences. Some couples choose unconventional venues - forests, art galleries, warehouses, rooftops, or back gardens to create a setting that reflects their relationship and personality. With rulings set to change on where you can get married soon this means couples will have an even wider choice on this too. At the moment though you can do the formal bit as a 2+2 intimate registry office wedding to take care of the formalities and then have a celebrant led ceremony with friends and family and do things YOUR way. Some couples rethink ceremony elements, writing their own vows, inviting friends or family to officiate, or blending cultural traditions in unique ways. For me though style is definitely my favourite way alternative weddings stand out. Outfits may be colorful, bespoke or vintage rather than formal white, décor may be handmade or sustainably sourced, and themes can range from whimsical to gothic to minimalist. Eclectic shoes, dyed or black dresses and viking handfastings are just a few things that have featured in weddings that I have captured. The world really is your oyster when it comes to weddings now. At their heart though, alternative weddings challenge the idea that there’s only one 'right' way to get married. They invite couples to express who they are, celebrate what matters most to them, and create a day that feels truly authentic rather than the expected norm.
